Hans Kronning, professor at the Department of Modern Languages, will present his research about “quantifiers of factual proximity” and counterfactuality, at an international conference in Alicante, Spain.

The international conference “Verb and Context” takes place at the University of Alicante, Spain, on April 13 and 14. The conference will be held online, registration and participation are free of charge.

Professor Hans Kronning’s presentation is scheduled for April 14, 10:30 to 11:00. The title is “Quantifiers of Factual Proximity and Counterfactuality in Romance” and the theme is counterfactual constructions in Romance languages, where the conditional clause is a Quantifier of Factual Proximity (‘one more step’). An example in Spanish is ”Un paso más y me mataba”, which means “One more step and it would have killed me”.

Hans Kronning will also present his findings in the Romance seminar at the Department of Modern Languages, 7 April, 14:15 to 16:00. Both presentations will be held in English.
